After three and half months strict Covid lockdown in Auckland, it is a surprise to me that HEART BLOOM Pop Up Art Show is a go! Although due to the 30 min per visit rule, the show needs to be kept fairly low key, I’m excited to show my recent paintings done in mixed media with oil, acrylic and ink. The thread of the show is the exuberant wild blooms captured in each painting. What’s unique about the the collection is my unplanned process, fast-action and uninhibited joy.

My method creating these paintings involves first layers of acrylic and ink where I let go of control and invited spontaneous happening and exhilarating surprises on the canvas. Then I built the images with acrylic based on what the painting has revealed to me or called for. Sometimes there’s a long breaks of days between the layers when I saw what I could do with the paintings. The final rendering is done in oil to create a softer and harmonious glow. The ultimate intention is to capture the emotional impact I feel from the beauty of the wild nature in Aotearoa.
