‘SPARK JOY’ collection draws inspiration from my recent trip to my mother's hometown Akita Japan where my family and I took an out-of-the-world pilgrimage to the historical healing site Tamagawa Hot Spring. After returning to New Zealand, the sound and sight of the outflowing fountainhead, the luminous vapour and the warm heating radium rocks still pulsate in my vein. This is the first family trip we took after losing our brother in 2018 and a long Covid separation. I know deeply that a rebirth has happened to us and I am eager to express the layers of emotions and a deep sense of gratitude through abstract paintings. ‘SPARK JOY’ will be the first mini series I will create to commemorate this pilgrimage of rebirth. The collection will be released on 2nd September.
