“Hapori” is a beautiful Maori word referring to community. I love the meaning so much that I created a pair of abstract pieces of Corals (See I'll Meet You at the Coral Vale) to express the sentiment. Coral is a priced beauty in Taiwan where I come from. And I love to create artworks that connect my origin to Aotearoa (New Zealand) where I live now.
I feel Coral Reef is a perfect metaphor for community as limitless and diverse marine creatures depend on the coral ecosystem for nutrients and protection. In fact, although coral reefs only occupy 0.1% of world ocean areas, they are home to 25% of ocean species. Coral is both strong and soft, life-giving but vulnerable. Like the heart of a community they need tender care to thrive and flourish. This whimsical abstract piece invites you to lean in to the warm beauty of a nurturing community where you can express who you are while grow and flourish in freedom.
