BOUNDLESS OCEANS VAST SKIES was created at the beginning of the Auckland lockdown in 2021. It is created for a commemorative club label for Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique - World 's best Single Malt Whisky - 2015 World Whisky Awards. The theme of the painting evokes freedom, hope, open expansiveness and joyful adventure. After two years not being able to travel freely and visit hometowns, the collaboration wants to express our longing for a carefree future and optimistic future through art.
The design of the painting involves abstract expression of the leaping actions of the dolphins, the splashes of water, schools of fish dancing with the ocean currents, sun glare leaping on open sky. While living in Great Barrier Island for three months, I had the bliss of dolphins visiting and swimming with us and following our yacht during sailing trips. The amazing experiences inspire me to create this piece conveying the emotions of joy, energy, excitement and exuberance through fluid splashes and blooms, large vibrant colour shapes and free-flowing lines.
The painting was chosen to exhibit at Artweek Auckland 2021 and Late Night Art 2022, and was featured as the hero image of The Big Idea Website.
