MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM came right after I moved into my new studio situated in the fern forest in the Scenic Drive of Titirangi, a magical place full of rich foliage and chirping birds. As most of my intuitive paintings I started with a rough Notan design with contrast of values and then I got the high flow acrylic and ink going in drips and splashes. Pretty soon I heard my heart say, oh, this is a painting about the mid summer night’s dream. It is incredibly intense, rich and vibrant. The floras hang from the top in layers, the water reflects the thickets, and the fireflies emerge from the deep shadows. At the end I added oil to further accentuate the colours and brushwork. I had so much fun in creating this painting. I feel this painting calls out our deepest dreams and bid us to live without holding back our passion!
