THE GAZE is a unique mixed media piece with the green woods background done in high flow acrylic and in an intuitive manner, while the foreground doe and forget-me-nots are done in oil realism.
Very interestingly, its message is unfolded in the painting process. At first I didn’t know what it is about. Then a friend told me this painting reminded her of the verses - “Until the new day fully dawns, run on ahead like the graceful gazelle and skip like the young stag over the mountains of separation. ~Song of Songs 2:17” Then I suddenly understood! This sweet intense mesmerising gaze is from our Creator who comes to call us to the mountain of spices, away from our cares and concerns into a life that is lighter, and more joyous. THE GAZE is about our affection, our single-hearted devotion, to the first love, to the call, to what matters more than our breath and our temporary life concerns. I love how the interaction with my friend reveals the meaning of the painting to me!!
