THE HAILSTORM & THE BLOOM was created during the Autumn of 2020 when we were having days of downpour rain. One night we were visited by a hailstorm. I rushed out to the deck and felt the exhilarating excitement of witnessing the force of nature, while wondering how the flowers in the garden and on the hills fared through the fierce weather. The next morning I saw petals scattering on the driveway, but to my amazement, many of the delicate flower species withstood the storm and were dancing in the sunlight.
I love how this painting demonstrates the lesson I learn from the nature. The strength of life comes from the tension between dark and light, hardship and tenderness. Hence I have high contrast of the dark black and blue against the golden yellow and vibrant red while the gentle violet shimmers throughout the piece.
Again, this piece is an intuitive painting that features layers of fluid acrylic, spontaneous brush strokes, and high contrasty colour palette.
