BATHED IN THE MORNING GLORY
BATHED IN THE MORNING GLORY
This piece came from my morning walks while living at a Bed & Breakfast near Warkworth, a lovely quaint town an hour north of Auckland. I was just back to NZ after living in Beijing for ten intense months working on an animation project. My daily morning walk at the garden refreshed me and brought me so much joy. I have fallen in love with doing realistic botanical work recently. It gives me the opportunity to quiet down, to appreciate the details of the plant, to observe the lighting in the setting. I realise I like to create high contrast in my painting, and to heighten the drama created by the sun. The shades of purple, red and blue of this gorgeous plant are so endearing.
