I love this Japanese word Tokimeku which means Spark Joy. It also describes how our heart pulsates in anticipation of something exciting. ‘Heart Leap’ expresses this wonderful state when our heart comes alive and opens up. I experienced this Heart Leap while I was awestruck by the wonder of the hot spring, the sun halo, the sulphur fumaroles and much more at Tamagawa. I love the vibrant colour palette of this painting - the brilliant magenta, the Indian yellow, the soft coral. The childlike spirit in me was translated into whimsical brushstrokes and large saturated organic shapes on canvas.
