STARDUST RHAPSODY
STARDUST RHAPSODY, a standout piece within the Tokimeku collection's RED subset, uniquely merges inspiration drawn from landscapes with a vibrant, non-realistic colour palette that mirrors the hues of an open heart. Geometric elements, derived from the shapes and volumes of vapours and steam found at the hot spring site, are intricately woven throughout the piece, with playful pencil details hinting at rock formations and crag lines. The bold colours of orange-red, violet-blue, and vibrant yellow and gold infuse the painting with dynamism and energy, capturing the whirlwind of emotions experienced when the heart opens amidst the wonders of the landscape, shimmering like bursting fireworks in the night sky. It tells the story of rediscovery and reconnection during a magical pilgrimage to Tamagawa.
This painting is crafted using acrylic and soft pastel on raw canvas, fusing the soak-stain technique pioneered by the 20th century American abstract expressionist Helen Frankenthaler with the artistic traditions of Asian water-ink that have been a cherished part of my upbringing.
